Clutter

Wow, April already. I’ve got two weeks off, and decided to begin making good use of my time by clearing up my mess. I think our mental and psychological state of being is very affected by our physical surroundings. That is, walk into a city during rush hour and you are likely to feel harried, busy, urgently needing to be somewhere, doing something. Watch cows munching on grass for a while and you can hopefully attain a measure of relaxation, peace, quietness of mind.

It helps me be more efficient and productive when I am set up for success. That is, my papers are organized, my clothes aren’t all over the room, the things I need to do are neatly listed and stacked, rather than being spread out wherever they were set down. Books and other distractions are placed out of view. No, I am not a neat freak, and such people often irritate me. But physical order of my small prison cell (I mean dorm room) enables me to achieve some mental order, which means I can get work done. And production and efficiency is the measure of success, right? That’s a subject for another time.

I wonder how this relates to our understanding and relationship with God...
